Meet the team
Alan was an actuarial student in 1969 with Scottish Widows so he understands the industry algebra. He became an IFA in 1973 - formed Alan Steel Asset Management in 1975.
He has survived 5 stock market crashes.
Before joining Alan in 1995, Steve worked for Clerical Medical for eight years. He became Managing Director in 2005 and as well as writing our monthly client newsletter he is also is a regular contributor to various newspapers.
Steve has specialist knowledge in all areas of financial planning
Frances joined the company in 1994 to set up our Tax Consultancy service for clients. Now she works as our Management Accountant and is responsible for managing our returns to the Financial Conduct Authority. She is a qualified Chartered Accountant and a former member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation. Frances joined the Board in February 2010.
Steve joined Alan Steel in 2006. Previously he spent 8 years with Scottish Amicable in corporate pensions and, more recently, 9 years with AXA Sun Life as a consultant specialising in offshore planning, pensions, post retirement planning and investments for private individuals.
Steve was appointed to the Board in April 2012.
Assists clients with the completion of their Tax Returns and general personal tax compliance. Qualified as Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Adviser during almost 10 years with a 'big five' accountancy firm.
Joined Alan Steel Asset Management in 1998.
He has broad experience with General Accident, NEL Britannia and a National Brokerage before joining Alan Steel Asset Management in 1995.
Extensive, sound knowledge in all areas, including pensions, investments and protection.
Alan was headhunted from an IFA firm where he was a director. He's been with Alan Steel Asset Management since early 1999, before that 4 years with an IFA firm, 4 years with National Brokers and 5 years with Clerical Medical. Alan's broad experience has made him a valuable addition to the team.
He won the Scotsman 'IFA of the Year' competition 2005/06.
Colin joined the industry in 1990. He spent 10 years with specialist pension providers NPI and Legal & General before bringing his expertise to Alan Steel Asset Management in June 2000.
Joined Alan Steel Asset Management in 1992. Originally responsible for the administration of the discretionary fund management area until 1996 when she moved to the pensions and investments arena to assist Steven Forbes. Comprehensive knowledge of all areas involved in successful financial planning.
Henry joined us in 2012 from Threesixty Services LLP where he was a Senior Compliance Consultant. Henry has been in Financial Services for over 30 years and spent 7 years as a Supervision Officer with the Financial Services Authority.
Gary joined Alan Steel Asset Management in 2015 and brings with him a wealth of investment knowledge. Previously Gary spent 8 years with the large insurance company Prudential before progressing to become an investment consultant with them in 2010. Specialising in investment Gary then took up a role as Vice President with Blackrock, a global asset management company.
Already well known to the team, Scott joined ASAM as a Financial Consultant in the summer of 2018.
An engineering graduate from Heriot-Watt, he spent 14 years at Scottish Widows latterly as a pension specialist before diverting his focus towards investments at Octopus Investments.
He then moved to Old Mutual Wealth to develop his investment experience focusing on onshore and offshore investments along with pension planning.
Scott is a strong technician with a wealth of experience.
Following his service as an engineer with the Royal Navy Mike decided on a career within Financial Services. As a fully qualified Financial Consultant he is working towards being a Chartered Financial Consultant, a widely accepted ‘gold standard’ for professional financial consultants. Mike has an excellent knowledge of investment markets, how to apply this to successful financial planning, and forms a key part of our Fund Research team.
Neil spent over 10 years in the Life and pensions Industry including a long tenure at Standard Life where he was involved with Investment Platforms & Pensions.
Following his time there Neil joined the group that is now known as Quilter where he held a number of roles involving Pensions, Tax & Trust planning and Investment Management. This involved assisting advisers across Scotland with technical support in areas such as Lifetime Allowance and investment management.
All of this industry experience built over 20 years means that he is a valuable member of our team.
